Generative Research to Understand Merchandiser's Promo Creation Process
Project Overview

Many customizations for this project were needed in response to the unique requests of the client.
This included balancing work on multiple tasks while simultaneously training a junior UX architect, adapting to changing priorities, deadlines, and an overall company-wide resistance to change.
This experience really made me realize how powerful it feels to bring the skills of a user experience researcher to a project while evangelizing qualitative UX research in a corporate setting.
Introduction- Understanding the needs of merchandising teams while creating promotions for seasonal products.

My role- Primary UX Researcher while training a junior UX architect.

Methods-
1:1 semi-structured interviews
Surveys (MS Forms)
Card sorting
Feature ranking
Modified artifact walkthrough

Discussion- Triangulating research methods increased the validity and persuasiveness of qualitative findings presented to stakeholders in slide shows.
Recommendations were used by the architect to create wireframes with necessary features.

Outcome- The project entered the next stage of designs & development as a result of findings.

A retrospective artifact walkthrough was used to generate understanding into the merchandiser's thoughts and behaviors while completing new promotion documents.

Participants were asked to think aloud while completing the new promo documents.

Multiple sources of data can be frustrating and lead to errors!

Features for merchandising tools were studied in this card sorting activity.

I love applying my knowledge and research findings during design iterations.
